Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first appointment.

No. You can book directly with a chiropractor without seeing your GP first.

At True Axis, we'll carry out a thorough assessment to determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you. If we believe another healthcare professional is better placed to help, we'll explain why and point you in the right direction.

Your first appointment lasts around 60 minutes and includes:

  • A detailed discussion about your symptoms and health history
  • A physical examination
  • An explanation of our findings
  • A discussion of your treatment options
  • A personalised management plan if appropriate

Treatment may be provided during your first visit if it's clinically appropriate and there are no reasons to delay.

Often, yes.

If your assessment shows chiropractic care is appropriate and it's safe to begin treatment, we'll usually start during your first visit.

However, if further investigation or referral is needed, we'll explain this clearly before making any recommendations.

Most people find chiropractic treatment comfortable.

Some techniques involve a gentle, precise movement to a joint, sometimes producing a popping sound. Others involve soft tissue work, techniques, mobilisation or rehabilitation exercises.

We'll always explain what we're doing beforehand, and treatment is tailored to your comfort and individual needs.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.

Depending on the area being assessed, you may be asked to remove outer layers or change into a gown if appropriate. We'll always respect your privacy and explain everything before beginning your examination.

There's no set number.

The right treatment plan depends on your condition, your goals and how your body responds to care.

We'll discuss our recommendations openly with you and review your progress regularly. There is no obligation to continue treatment beyond what you feel is right for you.

Chiropractors commonly assess and manage a range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches originating from the neck
  • Sciatica
  • Shoulder pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
  • Ankle pain
  • Wrist pain
  • Joint stiffness
  • Sports injuries

If you're unsure whether chiropractic care is suitable for your problem, you're welcome to book an assessment or get in touch first.

Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession in the UK.

Before any treatment, we'll take a detailed medical history and carry out an examination to determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you. If we believe another form of care would be more suitable, we'll explain why and refer you where appropriate.

Like any healthcare treatment, chiropractic carries some risks, which we'll discuss with you before treatment begins.
